In conventional TKR, a special bone cement is used to fix the implants to the bone. However, in recently developed newer implants, the under surface of the implants is coated with a porous material, which induces new bone formation into these pores. The fixation of implants to the bones achieved with these implants is superior, and complications associated with cement use are also decreased.
