Pune: In the heart of Pune, the love story of Sanjeevani and Nikhil unfolded against the backdrop of a unique challenge.
Eight years into their marriage, the couple’s dream of parenthood remained unfulfilled. The reason behind this was known to them — Marfan syndrome, an unwelcome guest in Sanjeevani’s genetic makeup.
Amidst their struggle with Marfan syndrome, embryo biopsy emerged as a beacon of hope, enabling the couple to carefully select a healthy embryo for transfer, ultimately leading to the fulfillment of their parenthood dream.
“We were aware that natural conception might jeopardize the well-being of our newborn baby. Hence, we opted for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) at SaiShree Hospital a few days ago,” said Sanjeevani.
In the scientifically designed IVF treatment at SaiShree Hospital, embryo biopsy stood out as a crucial step in the journey toward parenthood.
Usually in the least complicated cases, the IVF journey unfolds in two distinct stages. The first involves the delicate creation of embryos, an intimate amalgamation of sperm and egg samples from the resilient couple. The second stage, equally crucial, holds the promise of transferring the carefully crafted embryo into the mother’s uterus.
“Since Sanjeevani’s case was a lot more complex, we have to add one more step of embryo biopsy. Among the ten embryos that were created, numbers 7 and 8 stood out as they did not carry the genes of Marfan syndrome, unlike the rest. This careful selection process through embryo biopsy laid the foundation for the couple’s journey towards parenthood, promising a future free from the genetic constraints that once shadowed their dreams,” said Dr. Girish Pote, SaiShree Hospital’s eminent IVF expert.
The decision-making process regarding embryo selection was not merely a scientific endeavor but a deeply personal one, infused with the symbolism of M.S. Dhoni’s legendary resilience.
“It was No. 7 that caught my attention. This number is linked to the legendary cricket player M.S. Dhoni,” said Sanjeevani with a twinkle in her eye, explaining the decision regarding embryo selection.
The embryo, a blend of science and hope, was then transferred in Sanjeevani’s womb. To everyone’s delight, on the very first try, the couple’s dreams took root within the walls of SaiShree Hospital. The joy reached its pinnacle when, after months of anticipation, the newborn baby entered the world.
The newborn, named Shubham, underwent a series of tests in the months that followed and emerged victorious in this silent battle against genetic odds. His laughter echoed through the halls of their home.
“Sanjeevani-Nikhil’s story emphasizes the transformative power of techniques like IVF and embryo biopsy in overcoming the most daunting health challenges, offering newfound possibilities to many such couples,” said Dr Pote, Sanjeevani’s treating doctor.
SaiShree Hospital’s founder-head Dr. Neeraj Adkar said, “In the story of Nikhil, Sanjeevani and Shubham, we find the celebration of life’s unpredictable journey — a journey that transforms challenges into triumphs and turns dreams into the most beautiful reality.”
